A seminar of the UGR analyses concentrically braced frames for use in regions of high seismic risk
The Department of Structure Mechanics of the University of Granada organizes the Seminar Seismic performance of modern concentrically braced frames. The experts will deal with the seismic behaviour of concentrically braced frames for use in regions of high seismic risk in the United States. The Seminar is one of the activities programmes every year by seminar José Antonio García García, a meeting point to spread research news generated in the University of Granada ...

A study of the UGR allows to improve techniques of cold-asphalting
Bitumen is used in traditional asphalting, a sub-product that remains after successive oil refining, and dry goods, stones that confer stiffness on roads. Bitumen acts as adhesive but, as it is a very viscous material, it has to be heated to be used. Since some years ago, big technological innovations have been introduced to carry out the cold process, using the so-called bituminous emulsions, heterogeneous systems composed of two stages or elements, insoluble of each other, usually bitumen and water.

The University of Granada studies the potential of the “Atlas cedar” as reforestation source in Morocco
Through this study, the Department of Organic Chemistry of the UGR intends to contribute to the revalorization of the forest resources of Morocco. To this extent, the properties of the plant “Atlas cedar” have been studied as a resource for the creation of chemical products applicable to other areas such as medicine or pharmacology. To date, the plant has been exploited as a source of quality wood similar to the legendary “Liban cedar”. Chemical studies have been carried out to use other parts of the tree by solvent extraction, cracking and division ...

A thesis of the University of Granada unveils the keys of the waterproof capacity of paraffin chipboards
Under the supervision of professors Ignacio Covián Sánchez, Miguel Ángel Cabrerizo Vílchez and Roque Hidalgo Álvarez, this research work of the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Granada has gone deeply into the advantages of using paraffin as a waterproofing element for chipboards. The study has been carried out in the framework of the agreement between the group of fluids and bicolloids physics and the Spanish company Repsol YPF.
