Researchers Design New Substances that Might Help Fight Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease
University of Granada researchers have tested melatonin analogues in rats that inhibit the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), which is involved in the development of the diseases referred above.
This enzyme is also involved in other conditions as inflammatory bowel disease or rheumatoid arthritis, as well as in neurodegenerative conditions as Huntington's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
University of Granada researchers have tested melatonin analogues in rats as it inhibits the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), which (...)

Immigrant women giving birth in Spain suffer “great stress”, a study warns
University of Granada researchers have remarked that in many cases immigrant women should receive psychological treatment after giving birth to help them overcome disorders such as obsessive compulsive disorder, phobic anxiety, depression or psychoticism.
Apart from the stress of labor, there are other stress factors as being an illegal immigrant, having to ask a special menu (Muslim women) during their stay at the hospital, or facing communication problems.

A new imaging system produces 3-D models of monuments using unmanned aircraft
To develop this system, University of Granada researchers used an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which is an aircraft without a human pilot onboard.
This system produces a realistic reproduction of architectural models at a low cost.
University of Granada researchers have developed a 3D imaging system that scans 3D models of historical buildings using data obtained from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)–an aircraft without a human pilot onboard. This is the first 3D imaging system to combine (...)

Researchers develop a web application for the evaluation of the ecological status of rivers in the Spanish Mediterranean basin
University of Granada researchers have designed a web application called MEDPACS (MEDiterranean Prediction And Classification System), a project inspired in similar projects developed in other countries as the United Kingdom and Australia.
With just one click, the system provides a list of the macroinvertebrate community that should live in a specific point in any river of the Mediterranean basin, as long as there are no environmental alterations in that point. The list of macroinvertebrates provided by (...)

Scientific Evidence Proves why Healers See the “Aura” of People
University of Granada researchers affirm that healers present synesthesia, a neuropsychological phenomenon involving a "mingling" of the senses.
The results of this study have been published in the prestigious journal Consciousness and Cognition.
The authors remark the significant "placebo effect" that healers have on ill people.
Researchers in Spain have found that many of the individuals claiming to see the aura of people –traditionally called "healers" or "quacks"– actually present the neuropsychological phenomenon known as "synesthesia" (specifically, "emotional (...)

A Study Proves the Positive Effects of Heart Rehabilitation Programs on Patients
University of Granada researchers affirm that it is "essential" that heart rehabilitation programs aimed at patients with any heart disease are established and provided to cardiac patients.
The study included a sample of 200 patients suffering from heart disease.
A research conducted at the University of Granada has demonstrated the efficiency of a heart rehabilitation program aimed at patients suffering from heart disease. The authors of this study affirm that it is essential that heart (...)

A University of Granada Professor is Awarded the Best Film for a Video Showing a Beetle from the Inside
The biofilm was made using a computed microtomography that shows the anatomy of a small aquatic insect named Dryops.
This film has been awarded a prize at the SkyScan Micro CT Meeting, an international conference of computed microtomography recently celebrated in Brussels, Belgium.
A University of Granada researcher has been awarded the Best Film of the Year at the SkyScan Micro CT Meeting, an international conference of computed microtomography recently celebrated in Brussels, Belgium. Professor Javier Alba (...)

Global Warming has driven Europe’s Mountain Plants to Migrate 2.7 m Upwards in 7 Years
Vascular plants have moved 2.7 m upwards, which might lead to the extinction of high-mountain species.
While species diversity in summits of temperate-boreal regions has increased, it has declined in Mediterranean regions.
Such are the results obtained from a study published in Science, where University of Granada researchers participated.
Researchers at the University of Granada Department of Botanic have participated in an international study that has confirmed that global warming is causing plants to migrate to higher altitudes. (...)
